I would say so! It is time that you are spending learning more about dentistry and seeing actual dentistry done. I don't see why it wouldn't count. If the school specifically asks how you were able to get so many shadowing hours, you can explain that you were an assistant. I can't see why it would be a problem.

Where are you studying? I tried studying at home for the longest time and finally realized that I can't do it. There are so many distractions. Roommates, friends, food, TV, etc. I always study at the library now and I've been using the app Flora to stay on task. It's been a life changer!

I have often been told that they look at your application holistically. Focus on your DAT score and extracurriculars. You can always look online at what the average GPA for accepted students were at schools and apply to schools on the lower end of the spectrum.
