Research is a great addition to your dental school application. However, different dental schools may place more emphasis on if you participated in research. Some schools aren't as active in research and therefore aren't as concerned if you have done much. As you can see from the answers above, research isn't necessary to get into dental school, but if it's something you're interested in, definitely get involved. We would recommend at least being involved in a bit of research at some point.
